BLU Beyond Limits Ultra Multi Day Race
Beyond Limits Running
“Life, like running, is all about pushing beyond limits,” say race directors Stephanie and Ken Rubeli. “Runners of all abilities have learned there really is no such thing as a limit. Limits are merely perceptions in the mind that can be overcome through very hard work and determination. Ken and I have had to break through our share of perceived physical and mental limitations over the years and we’re far from done.”
Running saved their lives
Having type 1 diabetes for 22 years and needing a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2011, the benefits of running helped Stephanie through a quick recovery. Running had helped Stephanie also the years before as an outlet to maintain a positive personal and emotional focus to live for another day and to increase her physical condition.
Ken was overweight, overworked and stressed before he started running. He set-out to discontinue unhealthy behaviors and start living a healthier lifestyle.
Our inspiration for forming Beyond Limits Running is to provide runners of all levels the opportunity to experience the joy of “smashing” through their perceived physical and emotional limitations.
Push beyond your perceived limits
on 72 private acres of Wildlife Preserve and surrounding forest meadows situated south of Palm Springs in the San Jacinto Mountains at a comfortable altitude of 4,500 feet. Now entering its 8th year, the Beyond Limits Ultra has established itself as one of the most unique ultra events in the southwest.
What makes this two-mile loop event so unique? How about a big runner sleepover where runners sleep on-site, only feet away from the course, in bunk style heated cabins with hot showers. Multi-day races are hard enough, so why not skip the frost-covered frozen tent and take your breaks in comfortable warmth.
In addition to running, you’ll be reliving your camping youth as you and your fellow runners and crew enjoy mixing it up with the farm animals and horses, canoeing around the lake, climbing the ropes course, and of course making s’mores by the campfire.
Pathfinder’s culinary team delivers a catered breakfast and diner to the aid station every day. Not to worry, we will still be cooking up lunch, as well as on-demand meals and our own unique goodies like frozen grapes and popsicles.
Over the last 7 years, thanks to loyal runner support, this race has raised over $100,000 for the non-profit Pathfinder Ranch, one of Southern California’s premier educational sleep away camps whose mission is to connect people to nature and each other. There is something magical about this 8th annual reunion of ultra runners and their families. The event sold-out the last two years and nearly 70% of last year’s runners were repeat BLU runners.
NEW FOR 2020…..
Runners will be able to register their kids, and/or family/crew members for a 90-minute Astronomy class where a Pathfinder staff will teach about constellations and participants will view the sky with telescopes. But wait, there’s more new fun for 2020! Pathfinder Ranch will also offer a 90 minute Nature/Adventure Hike class. Participants will visit Pathfinder’s Nature Center (a building runners have never been inside of), meet a bunch of reptiles, a chinchilla and other animals, bugs, etc. After spending time in the Nature Center, Pathfinder staff will lead participants on a nature hike to the top of the hill overlooking Pathfinder. The classes will be available for $15 per class, or $25 for both.
With the exception of the 50K and 50M races, ALL RACE REGISTRATIONS INCLUDE on-site lodging in heated bunkhouse cabins (with hot showers) and 2 full meals per day catered by the Pathfinder culinary team (this is in addition to the abundance of aid station food provided). On-site lodging for crew, family, friends and 50K/50M runners can be purchased for $45 per night during the online registration process and offered on a first come, first registered basis. Two Pathfinder culinary team catered meals per day are included in the $45 fee. Extra bunkhouse spots are very limited and are purchased during the online registration process. We will again be bringing back the portable hot tub in 2020, along with a new selection of movie classics to be played on our 100 inch outdoor movie screen.
Whether you are running the 67/48/24 hour races, 100 mile, 50 mile, or 50K races, you will be treated like a VIP by your fellow ultra running RD’s and their incredible volunteers.
And by the way, if you happen to love race bling, this event is for you! Every runner who toes the starting line receives a large medal, along with a high-end sublimated tech shirt and a goodie bag stuffed full of fun stuff. Everyone who completes 100 miles or more, in ANY race, receives a newly designed 100 mile buckle for 2020, while 200+ mile finishers will receive the 200 mile buckle we created last year. This race sold-out the last two years, so take advantage of the best value in multi-day ultra running and register today..
The 72 hour race will now be a 67 hour race starting at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 18, 2020 and ending at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 21, 2020. All other races will start at 8:30 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Not only will you find Beyond Limits Running a place where you can achieve such breakthroughs but also have the Ultra Community support you. From cheering the last runner in as they cross the finish line, capturing runner’s PR’s, encouraging one another when a DNF is faced, to creating and improving a runner’s experience through nutrition, clothing and foot care, the Beyond Limits crew is here for you. Live, love and run as if there is no tomorrow; we do!
