Faro
The capital of the Algarve, Faro is often overlooked but offers some of the best flat-ground running in the region.
Culture & History: The Cidade Velha (Old Town) is entered through the neoclassical Arco da Vila. Don’t miss the Bone Chapel (Capela dos Ossos) for a bit of macabre history.
Nature Highlights: The Ria Formosa Natural Park, a labyrinth of canals, islands, and marshes.
Running: The Ludo Trail near the airport is a runner’s dream—flat, gravel paths through salt pans where you can see flamingos. The run out to Faro Island (Praia de Faro) is a straight 5km shot with water on both sides.
Clubs: Ana Dias Run Faro is both a shop and a club hub led by a former Olympian.
Eat/Buy: Outro Lado for organic and vegan options. For gear, the Forum Algarve mall has a large Sport Zone.
Sleep: Roots Hotel offers apartments with kitchenettes, ideal for runners who prefer to prep their own nutrition.
