Brooks Running
Brooks Sports, Inc. was founded in 1914 by John Brooks Goldenberg, in Philadelphia, and it operated as a partnership between John and his brothers, Michael and Frank. It originally made bathing shoes and ballet slippers, later expanding into other sports footwear and apparel.
In 2001 Jim Weber, a former Brooks board member since 1999, became president and CEO of the company. He rebuilt the business from the ground up, and re‑focused almost exclusively on running gear and performance footwear, saving Brooks from a bankruptcy.
Brooks is widely respected in the global running shoe market. It has earned a reputation for shoe technology, comfort, and performance, and for many runners their models like Ghost, Glycerin, or Adrenaline GTS (and others) are go-to options.
The company has a science-based approach to address climate change and align their efforts across every level of the business to reduce carbon emissions. This includes product designs, materialization, manufacturing, and global supply chain.
After 23 years, Dan Sheridan, a Seattle native, became the new CEO of Brooks Running in April of 2024. He strives to maintain his focus on the human side of the brand.
“Everything we do is designed to make you feel more alive.
Our shoes, gear, and experiences all have a singular goal in mind. We want to make sure each run, walk, and workout is better than before — a simple enough principle that guides every design and engineering choice we make.
The shoes and gear we develop, the experiences we create, and the partnerships we build should contribute to a more inclusive and accessible running community.”
