Every day in Uganda 16 women die due to complications related to pregnancy and birth. Your 5km can help.

These funds will provide safe birthing kits for mumma’s in Uganda so that they can safely deliver their babies into this world at the Kristina Health Centre in remote northern Uganda. The KHC operates in the Otuke district and since 2017, over 700 babies have been safely delivered into their mother’s arms by the passionate and skilled midwives at KHC.
For over a decade, AUCF’s Kristina Health Centre has been providing maternity care in a land where the vast majority of babies are delivered at home, amid unsafe conditions.
Thanks to AUCF’s support community, babies in Northern Uganda are now routinely delivered under the supervision of experienced medical professionals, to mothers who receive extensive pre- and post-natal care.
The exceptions: babies that are born via caesarean section, or mothers or babies who require surgery. These patients must be referred and driven to the nearest hospital — 40 miles away.
Until 2026, that is.
We will soon complete construction and equipping of KHC’s “Level IV” facility, which will include a surgery center. KHC’s Level IV wing will employ physicians who operate safely on patients — especially on expectant mothers who face complications. Until this new facility is complete, issues that are considered routine in the U.S. can mean that mothers’ and babies’ lives are imperiled.
This May, the Mother Run will fund completion of this new facility, and thus of life-delivering care for mothers and newborns. To join the Mother Run, we ask that you donate the $31 registration fee, and that you consider donating $50, AUCF’s cost to deliver a baby via caesarean section. (No, that’s not a typo: $50 for a c-section — including pre- and post-natal care.)
Along the way we hope you’ll also join us for a month of joyous movement — 5 kilometers or for 31 minutes, every day. We can think of no better way to spend the month than taking care of yourself so that we can all take care of others.
